This paper presents new fundamental principles and criteria of producing a fine grained microstructure in sophisticated molded parts by casting and forming viz. the thixoforming principles. Application results of the new metal-forming process for parts made from cast and wrought aluminum alloys by thixoforming and isothermal thixoextrusion techniques are analyzed.
